Building safety and confidence through
joyful rhythms and lyrics

This course combines music and gestures with essential safety skills, teaching people of all ages how to stay safe in various everyday situations.

Participants will learn lyrics and chants, set to the tune of classic nursery rhymes (U.S. based tunes), that reinforce important concepts such as personal boundaries, consent, getting help, and recognizing safety in multiple scenarios.

Through singing and sharing these songs, children and their adults will gain confidence, build resilience, and develop practical skills that promote their well-being in a fun and memorable way.

Amy first began sharing these songs at a preschool for children with special needs:

“The children and staff were quite engaged with Kidpower already, but when I introduced the songs, they became much more animated and aware. Smiles, movement, and energy increased…The staff was very excited to incorporate the songs in their teaching to support the children’s safety, awareness, and engagement. It was a joy to see the positive impact and witness how the songs created another avenue to teach and practice the Kidpower principles.“

About the Creator

Amy Lim

Kidpower workshop leader and advocate, Amy Lim, has witnessed many benefits of using music, movement, rhythm, and rhyme to teach, practice, elicit, and recall improved interaction and communication skills as a speech-language pathologist. She is thrilled to share the Kidpower Songs and Chants to provide these same benefits to learn and reinforce Kidpower’s Principles and People Safety Skills. Music is a fun and powerful tool that can provide opportunities for understanding and communication in ways other modalities may not. Engaging the brain and body in a variety of ways builds muscle memory, which can help us recall valuable skills when they are needed most. Amy loved hearing her kids spontaneously sing the songs and her daughter say, “I can’t get these songs out of my head!” which is exactly what we wanted. Please enjoy and share this additional resource with others!

Using music to teach skills adds excitement to practices

Using music to teach and learn Kidpower adds a completely new and exciting dimension to practices. Besides the enduring strength of traditional tunes and the educational lyrics, it is known that singing is as healing as laughing or crying. It helps us breathe better, calm down, relieve stress, anxiety, depression and chronic pain. It also reminds us that we have voice power to stay safe. I love this resource.

Helpful resource with familiar melodies for children

These are great songs. They have familiar melodies which children will have an inner connection to at birth. I love the lyrics sheet and posters. It is so wonderful that it is offered at an affordable price too.
