What our participants say

TRUST

When we share things about ourselves and learn about others it helps to build connection. When others open up, they are being vulnerable and letting others know about them. That vulnerability and connection can help to build trust within a community.

COMMUNICATION

Paraphrasing can also help my own self by helping me stay in a calmer state and slowing down the rushing instinct of arguing.

It definitely helps to use ‘I’ statements so that I am not assuming the intention of the other. I elaborate on the feeling, and where the feeling is coming from.

COOPERATION

Collaborating with others who you normally don’t work with built fond memories. Interactions bring down the guards some children had and made it easier for them to communicate.

NEUROSCIENCE

It’s most important that all parties are feeling calm before trying to solve a problem. Otherwise, the problem tends to escalate. What a valuable reminder!

PERSPECTIVE

I thought the bird activity was a very poignant way to think about biases, even for myself. As I understood how my own connection with my own heritage… is important to me, it softened my view of others’ connections.

BENEFITS OF CONFLICT RESOLUTION

Conflict resolution helps to build connection and a safe community (security) which all human beings need.

Games & exercises help bring concepts into focus.

Testimonials from participants

It was wonderful to see the children engage so whole heartedly in the activities and to hear them speak with great enthusiasm about how the ideas resonated with them and how useful these approaches and tools are. But what I valued most of all was Maryse’s ability to quickly demonstrate her respect for every person in the room and to cultivate trust and a wonderful rapport with all of those children and adults.
- Head of school
The TLC Pathways workshops jump-started our awareness of how we interacted with each other. We learned techniques to be better communicators and we now have a shared vocabulary upon which to grow in our relationships. It was also plain old fun!
- upper elementary guide
We are now able to face any problem or conflict. Our class really thanks you for everything you did.
- student learner
I like that “I” Statements challenge me to be more thoughtful about my words. “I” Statements are good for all of us to learn.
- Student learner
Since we’ve used these skills last week, our class has changed for the better.

I could use these skills in college!
